    Is Your Vehicle Experiencing Starting or Charging Problems?

    Your vehicle’s electrical system is enormously complicated. There are many components that can contribute to a problem, so it might be easier to leave it to the experts. If you are having difficulties starting your engine it does not always mean a flat battery. Your alternator or starter motor are other integral components of the electrical system that your vehicle cannot start without.

    Starter Motor

    When you turn the ignition key, you are actually turning on the starter, which then cranks and starts the engine. When a starter isn’t working correctly, the engine may start with great difficulty, or not at all.

    Starter problems may be due to electrical or mechanical failure or outright breakage due to wear and tear.

    Possible Symptoms of a faulty Starter Motors

    If when you are trying to start your vehicle, you may hear the starter motor cranking as usually, but the car doesn’t start:

    • When you turn the ignition key to the “Start” position and nothing happens
    • If you try to start your car and all you hear is just a click, or the starter cranks very slow

    Alternators

    The alternator carries out two important tasks. It recharges your battery while the vehicle is running to keep it at peak starting power, and it works with your battery to operate electrical components, such as headlights, windshield wipers, and more. A malfunctioning alternator can cause electrical components to operate erratically, or even cause your engine to suddenly stop running.

    Possible Symptoms Of Alternator Problems

    If your vehicle has any of the following symptoms, there may be something wrong with the alternator:

    • Warning light ALT for alternator or “GEN” for generator – if the warning light located on the dashboard comes on, this may be an indication that something is wrong with the alternator
    • Dimmed lights – if the headlights in your vehicle are dimmer than usual, this could also be a sign of a problem with the alternator
    • Smell of burning rubber – the smell of burning rubber can be a sign that the alternator that is overheating
    • Dead Battery – a battery may lose its charge when the alternator fails

    Possible Symptoms Of A Faulty Starter Motor
